The Rain of God
What a day to watch the rain, as we are reminded that you can make all things clean and grow. You don’t do much that isn’t up close. You could have chosen to rise the water levels from the ground to water the earth but there’s something about your graceful descent to have droplet to leaf contact. I wonder why the rain has its own built in dirt and grime cleaner. Did you want us to know that cleaning and growing are one? That they don’t move on without each other.
There’s something about seeing everything find an even brighter colour of green. There’s something about the footpaths getting an upgrade, a hose wash. There’s something about watching tired trees come back to life and dead plants people have been meaning to plant but have left out in the sun to dry up. This day. I wonder what path ways he’s clearing, what tired trees that need a bit of extra water, what steady and strong trees are showing off their deep green, and what plants that have been left out, that need a little attention today.
For you to kiss the skin of our growing selves, for you to fill the well in our hearts until it’s right up there. Full.
Maybe it’s not a magical moment. Maybe it’s just watching the rain fall and hit the top of the leaves and drop right down until it falls to the source( roots) that need it the most. Knowing that you do that with us, in the most ordinary of ways and moments.
Father with us, friend with us, large droplet rolling off our minds and deep into our hearts. Closer than we dare to imagine in this somewhat normal day.
